The Sound of Fold

Fold serves as the second single from UNTER STRØM, arriving via the independent label Breathing Records. The track explores a minimalist techno direction built on pulsing bass plucks, evolving textures, and mechanical percussion. Instead of relying on large melodic peaks, the production thrives in restraint to create a hypnotic late-night atmosphere.

Creative Origins and Production

Alex Gonzales conceptualized the foundation of the track on a flight to Calgary while traveling for a festival performance. He experimented with layered bass movement and minimal rhythmic elements before sending the session to John Kunkel. Kunkel expanded the arrangement by enhancing melodic tension, atmosphere, and intricate sonic details.

Acclaimed producer Aaron Short handled the mixing duties for the release. Short previously worked with Madison Beer, The Naked and Famous, and So Below, bringing an expansive finish to the dense low-end textures. Mike Marsh completed the mastering process, adding his expertise after recently mastering the Nine Inch Noize album by Nine Inch Nails.

Live Reception and Future Direction

The single already serves as a standout highlight during live Transmission sets and audiovisual performances. Fans frequently inquired about the unreleased ID after hearing it in recent mixes and live recordings. The duo avoids predictable structures, continuing to push techno, melodic house, and industrial sonics into uncharted territory.
