On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, from Cold War RAF fighter pilot to divinely awakened truth-seeker, debut author George Begg unveils his astonishing decade-long spiritual revelation in Mysteries of the Other Side: The Hidden Story.

From Cold War Skies to Spiritual Truths: George Begg Reveals ‘The Hidden Story’

George Begg on The Table Read Magazine
George Begg

For most of his life, debut author George Begg saw the world in stark, uncompromising terms. As an RAF fighter pilot during the Cold War, he was trained to think in absolutes: threat or no threat, safe or unsafe, survive or don’t. Later, as a businessman, he relied on logic, evidence, and precision. Spirituality was something other people talked about. God was an idea he filed under “unproven”.

Then everything changed.

What began as a single, unexpected moment of overwhelming clarity set him on a path he could never have imagined. It dismantled a worldview built on science and discipline and opened the door to a decade-long journey of deep spiritual revelation. The result is Mysteries of the Other Side: The Hidden Story, a book that blends lived experience, biblical symbolism, and a radically different interpretation of what lies behind the world we see.

In this conversation with The Table Read Magazine, George reflects on the two halves of his life: the pilot who scanned the skies for threats, and the man who now searches the spiritual realm for understanding. He talks openly about the encounter that changed everything, the hidden meanings he believes were buried within scripture, and why he feels compelled to share this message now.

You spent years flying high-speed missions in the RAF; how did that experience of discipline, danger and perspective shape the way you see the world, and ultimately, the way you write?

Service in the armed forces in general, and the RAF during the cold war in particular, does tend to focus your mind. You follow orders without question, and as you train for a war you hoped would never come, you start to see the world in black and white. Friend or hostile. Threat or no threat. Destroy the target or avoid it. In combat, kill or be killed.  Personal danger was less important than completing the mission, even in peace time.

I lived in a military culture based on conflict and power. On one side, escalating conflicts motivated by threats or real attempts to gain power – or on the other side, trying to avoid them in some way. In my case, the escalation I saw had reached the capacity to deploy enough nuclear weapons to destroy most or all of mankind. The policy we applied to deal with this, was to deter an aggressor by demonstrating that they could not win a nuclear war. If they attacked us, we would be able to wipe them out with our own nuclear weapons. And they had the same policy against us. We called the policy, Mutually Assured Destruction, or MAD for short. My job was defensive, part of the UK air defence force. We aimed to demonstrate to an aggressor, that we would destroy most of their nuclear bombers before they dropped their bombs, so we were a significant part of the deterrence.

And that was how I saw the world. I saw and understood the peril we were in, every day, and I trusted our political leaders that MAD was the best way to prevent that war. So, I and my friends did the best we could to make it work.

I didn’t write any great strategic papers (or anything else) at that time. But if I had, it would have been to reassure the reader that deterrence worked and that they shouldn’t worry. There would have been nothing about a higher power with a better plan! But I did worry all the time that we were so close to total destruction, and it would only take one misguided leader to kick it all off. I thought our peace was a very fragile one.

You’ve said you began your career a sceptic, trained to trust logic and evidence. What began to shift that worldview – was there a moment, an experience, or a question that made you start looking for deeper meaning?

I would say I lived all of my early life using scientific methods to shape my decisions. I studied sciences at school and at university. So, I looked for facts not feelings or intuition, and I insisted on evidence behind the facts before I would accept them. For example, if I needed to work with someone I didn’t know, sometimes I would be told there was something not right about that person. The person advising me might say that they just have a feeling about them which they don’t like, but I would ask what was wrong about them, and what had they actually done which was so bad. In the absence of any hard facts, I would ignore the warning. I had no interest in anything spiritual. Without factual evidence, it didn’t exist.

A couple of years after I left the RAF, this whole worldview changed completely. It wasn’t a gradual shift based on experience, or an approach by someone who was promoting the concept of help from God, trying to make me think. If anyone had tried this approach they would have been politely but firmly shown the door.

Rather, it was a dramatic event, when God appeared to me one night, in a blinding white light. When you have met with God, it’s very difficult to deny their existence, so everything changed! Because, after that contact I was able to communicate with God two way, my questions were never about does God exist, they were more about what I was asked to do by God and how I could do it better. That was all the depth I needed. And since communication with God is spiritual and all about feeling and knowing and understanding that something is absolutely true, with certainty, facts are not required, but usually come along afterwards in any event.

Would you describe yourself now as “spiritually curious” rather than traditionally religious? How do you personally define ‘believer’ and how has that definition evolved through your writing journey?

I would describe myself as not just spiritually curious or hungry for spiritually truth, I am spiritually ravenous for spiritual truth! The meaning of the word religious has been corrupted somewhat over time, so I try to not use it. We hear about how religious arguments are used to justify wars and terrible conflicts, both sides claiming that God is on their side, but the truth is hidden or ignored. I simply try to reveal the truth behind the spiritual world, as it was revealed to me, so that it all begins to make sense.

To me, your journey in the spiritual world starts by believing in the spiritual world, and that is what I mean by being a believer. You either believe or you don’t. Later you may refine your belief within the spiritual world. Perhaps you believe that Jesus is the Messiah and follow him, or perhaps you don’t. There are various “ways” you can choose, with various consequences, and I explain all of those that are covered in the bible.

Looking back, what do you think connects your two worlds — the fighter pilot who once scanned the skies for answers, and the author who now searches scripture for truth about what’s happening in the world right now and what is going to happen in the future?

Well, I scanned the skies for targets to shoot down, rather than to find answers. I thought I had all the answers I needed, without God, because I only knew the physical world. Now I scan scripture for answers, because I know the spiritual world and that it is hidden within scripture. But I also know that the spiritual world is closely linked to the physical world, and what happens in the spiritual world can have significant consequences in the physical world, whether we know it or not. That is both for us individually, but also goes as far as nations and even all of humanity – especially at these times.

So, I scan what is happening in the physical world to identify the cyclical events that I understand so well in the spiritual world. I will explain that everything in the spiritual world is cyclical, not linear. These cycles are constantly repeating themselves, so to a large extent, they are predictable. (Like the position of orbiting planets and stars, and their gravitational affects on surrounding bodies are predictable.) When I see the cycles, I have a sense of what is happening and what will happen next. Only then do I begin to make sense of the chaos we are surrounded by. That is why I know that we are approaching the end of the age and that this will include the famous Armageddon. But I am not living in fear of it. And I know what comes after it.

What connects the two worlds? God. If you don’t understand God, then you don’t understand what is happening in either of the worlds.
