He says: “When I’m not writing novels I am either hitting the gym or banging my head to heavy metal. By day I work as a commercial scriptwriter in radio, but by night I write about the dark and fantastical. My career as an author was born one morning after waking up from a particularly ferocious nightmare. I thought, ‘Wow! That would make a great novel!’ I decided from then on not to fear my nightmares but to embrace them, and now I deliberately induce them.”
