Having lived on the south coast of England for most of his life, Ian Dowding knows the towns from Brighton to Hastings extensively, and the sea as well as one can from the safety of the land.

He has been many things including painter, teacher, photographer, cook, restaurateur, shopkeeper and writer. He has written cookery books and short stories and articles for magazines including The Restaurant Business, The Oldie, Aspect County and bits and pieces for The Guardian.

He lives not far from the sea with his wife and has two grown up children and four grandchildren.
