I interviewed Sam Kabert about his life and career, what inspires him, and the work that went into his inspirational new book, SOUL/Life Balance.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

I’m a recovering workaholic. In 2017, I launched my first podcast, in 2018 I wrote my first 3 books, and also in that year I launched a food show on YouTube. I did all of these things while building a million-dollar business while working less than 4 hours a day. Yet, despite all of my successes (including being named to Silicon Valley’s 40 Under 40 List in 2019); I was unhappy.

I know now, after years of inner work, that my depression was stemming from a lack of connection within. You see I was chasing “Work/Life Balance” – I had Work/Life Balance but what I didn’t have is SOUL/Life Balance!

Reading Never Goes Out of Style

SOUL/Life Balance is the daily practice to put yourself first and foremost while simultaneously recategorizing work as part of life as opposed to putting work before yourself and a connection to something greater than just this life.

In November of 2021, I obtained my Yoga Teacher Training certificate and since then I’ve been teaching yoga weekly, leading Men’s Groups monthly, writing my 4th book, and am now traveling nationwide to speak at events about how the shift to practicing SOUL/Life Balance can help one feel more fulfilled.

When did you first WANT to write a book?

I always knew I wanted to write a book and my first book was written a week before my 30th birthday – that was my goal – to have it written before I turned 30. I knew my latest book, the #1 Bestselling Book “SOUL/Life Balance” would be birthed after my first experience with the plant medicine known as Ayahausca back in 2019.

When did you take a step to start writing?

I first got into writing professionally back in 2016. I held myself accountable for reading a weekly blog which later became the catalyst to get into podcasting and I’ve been blogging on and off ever since.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

Well, from the idea is a big question; but let’s say from the first commitment J … The first book took me somewhere around 3 months and I figured out the formula and enjoyed writing so much that I ended up writing my first 3 books in 12 months.

SOUL/Life Balance

The latest book took me about 3 years from idea to release. This one was different; I knew I’d write it one day but when the idea came in 2019, I also knew it needed time to develop. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I had seriously considered writing the book but it wasn’t ready to be birthed. I just sat with it and didn’t know why at the time but looking back it just needed time to develop and I needed more experience in actually practicing SOUL/Life Balance myself.

Editing and Proofreading by Scribendi

Focusing on your latest release. What made you want to write SOUL/Life Balance?

I wanted to write this book and I continue to desire to share this message because I believe our society is facing all-time highs in suicide rates amongst other catastrophic events due to the mental health crisis. I wholeheartedly believe by shifting to the daily practice of SOUL/Life Balance can drastically improve one’s mental health.

What were your biggest challenges with writing SOUL/Life Balance?

My biggest challenge was just waiting … to learn how to be patient and not rush the process.

What was your research process for SOUL/Life Balance?

Well, the book came about as a result of my lifestyle shifts. I had blinders on only delving into content, conversations, and overall any topics surrounding Spirituality. I didn’t do this for research; I did it for my inner growth. Through the book writing process, I knew which subtopics to delve into deeper for research based on my inner journey.

How did you plan the structure of SOUL/Life Balance?

Working with my coach and developing a mind map and outline was my strategy for structuring this specific book.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did your book need?

Yes, I did. Not much. Just grammar-type stuff more than anything.

The #1 Writing Tool

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?

Listen to one of Chandler Bolt’s audiobooks on how to write a book! J

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

No, not at this time. I know there will be more, but as of now, I have no idea what the future holds in terms of future book topics.

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

100%!
