Grandpa Hedgehog And The Big Black Bag

Irwin Stone’s new children’s book, Grandpa Hedgehog And The Big Black Bag, is going to capture the hearts of every young reader with the story of an old hedgehog who has to suffer the indignity of having a smelly rubbish bag stuck to his quills.

What would you say if your friends and neighbours, in fact, everybody who visits your house, left their waste, leftover food, empty cans, used tissues, and unused refrigerators in the middle of your living room? This is exactly what some of us do to the animals of the forest.

When a careless tourist throws a rubbish bag out of his car, Grandpa Hedgehog is in the wrong place at the wrong time. To his surprise, it lands right on his back and gets stuck to his spiky quills! As the unwanted gift came with an unpleasant odour, Grandpa Hedgehog asks, “Is it lawful to smell so awful?” This yucky mishap sparks a chain of adventurous and downright humorous events.

Follow Grandpa as he rolls and tumbles through a series of comical encounters, turning a minor accident into a tale of laughter, friendship, and unexpected twists on a spiky adventure that will leave you giggling and rooting for Grandpa all the way!

With his story of environmental responsibility and friendship centering on the message that littering is not a good thing to do, debut children’s author Irwin Stone turns a terrible (and smelly) situation into a joyous tale. It also reminds us that those not-so-good things that happen in life can sometimes become the catalyst to a wonderful new life adventure. In this case it finds Grandpa Hedgehog enjoying a whole lot laughter and meeting a host of new forest friends.

Irwin Stone

I’m a Hungarian born concert pianist (award winning international, as nowadays we like to advertise ourselves) and composer. As a teenager I was a notorious reader and wrote short stories. Instead of studying, so much so, that at the end of my first “gymnazium” year I received an ultimatum from the Catholic High school I attended: I either carry on in the music conservatory or they will kick me out. So, I was half forced to study music, which I loved.

After finishing university in Budapest, I received a scholarship to study in the United States, and I spent the next three years there. I found my American dream in the form of a gorgeous Hungarian girl, whom I met there and married 6 weeks later. After returning to Europe I was based both in Budapest and in Salzburg, until 2002. In 2000 I started teaching at my alma mater university, and a year later writing sound tracks for computer games. In 2009 our family (same wife) moved to the UK.
