On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, British brother and sister duo, Angel X Star have released a modern version of Dolly Parton’s Jolene in the Afro R&B genre.

ANGEL X STAR

The brother and sister duo ANGEL X STAR hail from Hertfordshire, UK. Their music is reminiscent of artists such as Brandy, Aaliyah, Tems, and Rema, creating infectious R&B and Afro pop songs.

Having grown up in a musical family, Angel and Star began singing together at church and other events as a trio with their other sister. Sadly, their younger sister passed away, and they decided to continue making music and honoring her legacy because they could not let go of what brought them together.

The duo shared that they felt that they couldn’t relate to other artists and decided to make music for themselves and for their own healing, but then realised that this could also be helpful to those experiencing something similar to them, as they express their grief and loss through music.

Jolene

Their most recent release, “Jolene,” is a lighthearted take on Dolly Parton’s 1974 smash hit. Starting as an experiment, the couple wanted to make a modern version in the Afro R&B style. This is a heartbreak song inspired by Dolly Parton, connecting that song’s vision and pain to their own experience of heartbreak.

“Jolene” joins two unique backgrounds of pain, but rooted in love. The duo gave the 1970s classic their own personal touch by adding playful synths, soulful layered harmonies, and a throbbing, bouncy beat.

ANGEL X STAR have performed to sold-out crowds and got airplay on radio broadcasts including BBC 1Xtra and DJ Target. 2023 is set to be a major year for the team, as they go into a new chapter with a strong start.
