Distortion

Groundbreaking new novel, Distortion by Sierra Ernesto Xavier, is a sensually charged story that delves deeply into the lives of two people grappling with their own challenges. Set against the backdrop of a world quick to judge bodily appearances, She has scoliosis and He has facial disfigurement, and their story is one of finding strength through vulnerability and love through tremendous adversity.

A sensually charged and ambiguously romantic story, Distortion examines how a courageous relationship can be formed and fought for by two unnamed characters who have experienced cruelty and rejection as they moved through the world.

They wrestle for a private shared space, away from a world that has condemned them for being in their bodies, to try and forge a relationship, almost losing themselves when they confront their personal demons and challenge the distorted perception thrust upon them.

From the physical landscape of their bodies to the visceral unravelling, marred by fear, they dig deep to comprehend the obstacles in their way, discovering a new set of truths which emerge from their bodies as they move closer together.

With exacting details of the characters’ journeys, Sierra Ernesto Xavier’s Distortion examines romance in a new way, challenging the conventional narratives of physical perfection in love stories. It’s a tale that has resonated deeply with early readers, in a world where diversity and inclusion are increasingly at the forefront of social consciousness. Not only entertaining with the beauty of its prose, Distortion enlightens and inspires, encouraging those turning the pages to look beyond the surface and embrace the complex beauty of imperfections.

In writing this book, I sought to explore love in its most naked form.

Distortion is a reflection of my belief that real intimacy and understanding, true connection, transcends physical appearances. It’s a story born from the heart and one that opens a much needed window to empathy and acceptance. We all have boundless capacity for love, irrespective of our external appearances or what others see when they look at us.

I believe the book will challenge readers to face their own preconceived ideas about what a love story ‘looks like’ and uncover a rawer, truer form of love.

Also the authr of author of Humanity’s Rage and The Malady of Love, Sierra Ernesto Xavier is a writer of innovative fiction focusing on the theme of angst and anxiety.

His imagination was stimulated upon reading Homer’s Odyssey and Ovid’s Metamorphosis, which were in contrast to the texts that he was required to read in school.  With an interest in the Classics, he became submerged in literature, enjoying the different styles of writing over the centuries and began writing as a hobby.

His reading of fiction came to a standstill once he encountered the writings of Samuel Beckett and Marguerite Duras.  The harshness and bleakness of Beckett’s writing and the haunting beauty of Duras’s style left an indelible impression upon him that characterises some of his writing.

Sierra graduated in Applied Psychology, trained as an Existential Counsellor, although no longer practicing, and lives in London.
