“I grew up in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, studied economic and social history at the University of Liverpool, and have lived in NE Scotland for many years.
“Working at the University of Aberdeen library, I sometimes like to browse the old nineteenth century folk tales hidden away in the stores. I also spend time with my dogs who take me for long walks in the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside, and I try to play the clarinet in a local orchestra.
“My story tells about the life of a Victorian woman called Wren who is given a magic pendant which she must use to protect London Stone.
“Her story moves from Petworth to Chichester to London and she is pursued by Corvus, a raven creature created in ancient times on London Stone, and immortally linked to it.
“Serin, in the present day, discovers this story of Wren, her three times great grandmother, hidden in her mother’s loft, and the book is framed by scenes in which Serin slowly discovers the secrets her family has been hiding since Wren’s life, and realises there must be magic in the world.”
