Behind The Curtain: My Life And Rocky Horror

The Rocky Horror Show has a cult following unlike any other theatre-based musical, unrivalled in the affection it is held by fans across the world. In his fascinating memoir, Behind the Curtain: My Life and Rocky Horror, Martin Fitzgibbon shares stories from his role of lead drummer when the show debuted at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 1973.

Offering a glimpse of what it was like to be there at the start of a phenomenon that fifty years on is more popular than ever, Martin gives his unique insight into how the show and its participants became an overnight success and created a cultural phenomenon.

Bursting with never heard before anecdotes, as well as insights into Martin’s life before and after “Rocky”, which while not straightforward, was overwhelmingly full of fun, laughter and surprises, he intends to take readers into his world and leave you with a smile.

Behind The Curtain is a tale of contrasting worlds of optimism and resilience when dealing with the challenges of life. If you’re a Rocky Horror fan, or know one, this book makes the perfect read.

Martin Fitzgibbon

In 1973 Martin Fitzgibbon was the young drummer recruited specifically to play an integral part in The Rocky Horror Show’s success.

He began playing drums at the age of eight and ventured into the uncertain, exciting and precarious world of being a professional musician aged sixteen. He has worked in almost every musical genre, in many parts of the world, while pursuing his craft. Despite spending a lifetime in music, he claims merely to be getting closer to understanding what that entails but isn’t there yet!

Martin now lives in the ‘world’s first book town’ of Hay on Wye, retains his love of music, continues to play concerts and record on a regular basis.
