It examines a variety of thought-provoking topics, including conservatism, multiculturalism, progressivism, woke liberalism, free speech, and the Florida recount. He refutes the widespread notion that a “conservative,” whether they live in San Francisco or elsewhere, lacks compassion or a personal commitment to assisting the less fortunate. According to Parker, government programs that are backed by many progressives today to correct this misconception merely add to the deficit in dangerous ways.

Throughout his 40 years as a teacher in San Francisco public schools, Parker has focused on the issues he addresses for more than 50 years. He reminds readers in A San Francisco Conservative that the “crises” that have impacted the American economy numerous times throughout the nation’s history pass. Parker backs his belief that there are always economic opportunities with solid research. He warns that the very democracy that has brought prosperity is being jeopardized by government leaders, particularly those who identify as progressives.

“Poverty was about 15% in 1964, and you can go to the U.S. Bureau of Census, and it shows that the needle never budged from 1964 to today,” said David Parker during a recent interview. “Approximately $23 trillion for the War on Poverty … and no result.”

In order to write A San Francisco Conservative, Parker returned to school at the age of 50 to acquire a deeper understanding of the timeless economic principles and the mistakes made by nations that deviated from them. His latest book also serves as a message of reassurance and a challenge to the conventional political thinking of the day, just as his first book, Income and Wealth, provided readers with a thought-provoking examination of the foundations on which this nation’s freedom rests.

Parker began his career in education when he was 24 years old. He taught music for four decades and served as a volunteer for ten years at San Francisco’s inner-city public elementary schools. Parker went on to become a successful real estate investor while working in education. His writing, teaching, and professional musicianship were centered on business success. After 20 years as a member of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Parker led the Dave Parker Sextet for 20 years, performing as the main act twice at the San Francisco Fillmore Jazz Festival. The Economist, The Financial Times, and prestigious law journals have published his essays.

A new podcast series with the title “A San Francisco Conservative,” which will be released simultaneously with David Parker’s most recent book, is a showcase for Parker’s views on the proper role of government and how individuals can arrange for the principles of a free-market economy to work in their favor.
