On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, new research from Samsung StemDrop found that Gen Z Brits are getting their musical inspiration from artists like Kate Bush, ABBA, and Amy Winehouse.
Musical Influences
Young people are influenced musically by ABBA (13 percent), Fleetwood Mac (eight percent), David Bowie (eight percent), and the Beatles (12%), in addition to contemporary artists like Drake (27%), Rihanna (26%), and Eminem (28%), who topped the poll.
Kate Bush accounted for seven percent of the definitive list of 30 musical influences. This was undoubtedly due to her 1985 album Running up that Hill, which went on to become a major hit once more after she appeared in season four of Stranger Things.
According to a survey of 1,000 16- to 25-year-olds, older artists are making a comeback.
Finding Musical Inspiration
44% of people look for musical inspiration on social media, 43% go to entertainment platforms like TikTok, and 42% go to playlists on music streaming sites.
55% of respondents acknowledge that pop is their preferred genre of music, followed by rap (50%) and hip hop (48%) and R&B (36%).
One in ten (11 percent) say classical music is their favorite genre, while a quarter (22 percent) prefer rock and grime.
Seventy-one percent (71 percent) of the young Britons surveyed say they couldn’t live without music, listening for an average of three hours per day.
Music Creation
One in three people, or 31%, say they want to be a music star on TikTok, and another third, or 27%, say they already upload music to the site.
Even though a sixth of respondents (15 percent) admit to being intrigued by the production process, one in four (24 percent) do not have access to the appropriate technology to create music.
Insufficient musical ability (23 percent), excessive nervousness (21 percent), and lack of time (20 percent) are also cited as obstacles to music creation.
One in six (16%) believe that no one else would like their music, and one in six (18%) admit that they lack inspiration. 15% believe that there is insufficient guidance on how to make music.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that 38% of respondents would jump at the chance to learn more about online music sharing and production.
StemDrop
StemDrop was launched by Samsung and TikTok. a brand-new way to record and mix music on TikTok.
“We are committed to empowering creative expression through our smartphone technology and are really excited to be leading the way in redefining how music is being made,” said Annika Bizon from Samsung.
For their Make It With Nile series, Samsung worked with TikTok stars ALTÉGO and Grammy winner Nile Rodgers to bring together contemporary new music makers and offer guidance to aspiring creators on how to take their work to the next level.
